Vitrified Diamond and CBN ( Lesson n.1)

Generally, why Diamond and CBN wheels?
Diamond is for carbide, ceramic, glass, stone.
CBN is for steel, cast iron.
Better performances on hard materials: higher stock removal rates in shorter time compared to conventional grinding wheels.

What’s the difference between resinoid bonded and vitrified bonded wheels?
Resinoid bonded wheels don’t have any porosity and are difficult to dress with diamond tools.
Vitrified bonded wheels have porosity and can be easily dressed with special diamond dressing systems.

Pre-conditions for use of vitrified CBN grinding wheels
Machines in good conditions (no vibrations and high rigidity).
Mass production (big quantities per part).
Dressing system on the machine.
Wheel speed at least 50 m/sec. (except internal grinding).
Problems of wheel wear or surface finish on big series, with conventional grinding wheels.
Higher degree of care in approach to grinding problems...
